Students that come to America have many adjustments to make while also completing their academic work. Cultural and language barriers, new cuisines, different rules and laws, time zone adjustments, and the paperwork that must be completed to enroll in U.S. institutions can be a tough task to overcome. When carrying out the tasks of getting admitted and completing school in the U.S., international students must remember to get important documents such as diplomas and transcripts certified through the Apostille process before returning home so they will be accepted in their home countries.
The apostille is a genuine authentication applied to documents by the Federal government that will allow them to be accepted overseas. Companies that carry our business in other countries often need to certify important documents such as powers of attorney, contracts, letters of incorporation and other papers that are necessary to complete transactions abroad. The process of executing documents and signing contracts in other countries is sped up by having the documents apostilled. This includes activities such as entering into lease agreements or opening bank accounts.

Sometimes clients request notaries to process college degrees with apostilles and also a certified copy of the apostilled document, which is illegal. Both documents should have the raised seal from the institute issuing it.

Documents that are not composed in English may need to be translated before they can be notarized. The notary will need to witness the translation of the documents along with the translator’s signing of the documents. Both versions of the document will then be submitted for an apostille.
There are many types of documents that can be submitted for an apostille. Some of these documents include proof of residency, doctor/employer authorizations, and other non-governmental papers. These documents may need special preparations such as notarization to be eligible for an Apostille.
Obtaining citizenship in a foreign country often involves assembling multiple documents that need to be authenticated. Completing a Criminal Background Check is likely to be one of those documents. Some countries are stricter than others when it comes to the authentication process but most have similar procedures and requirements.
When driving in a foreign country with a U.S. issued driver’s license, you still must show that your license is valid to be used outside of the country. Due to the recent terrorist attacks around the world, showing proof of who you are when driving abroad is critical and an apostilled copy of your driver’s license can provide that validation.
