If you're looking to use a public document from the state of Florida abroad, you'll need to get an apostille. An apostille is an authentication certificate that verifies the document in question as coming from a reliable source.
An Apostille is a certification provided under the Hague Convention of 1961 for authenticating documents for use in countries that are signatories to the convention. In the United States, the Office of Authentications in the U.S. Department of State provides Apostille services for documents that will be used in a foreign country.
If you operate alcohol, tobacco, or firearms and ammunition-related business you are required to have a permit or another form of a certificate that authorizes your business for operations. This permit is issued by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). The TTB also issues certificates that confirm that other goods (including food items, cosmetics, medical devices, etc.) are legally sold or distributed in the open market without any restrictions and approved by the regulatory authorities in the country of their origin.
Do you require an apostille on a single status affidavit issued by the US Embassy or Consular office? If you are in a foreign country and wish to get married there, you will need to obtain a document from the US Embassy/Consulate confirming that you are not married.
Do you require an apostille on your US-issued documents for use in India? If you are going to India to work, study, get married, establish a business, etc. your US-issued legal documents must be authenticated to become valid in India. Since India is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, US-issued documents intended for use in India must be authenticated with the apostille.
If you are planning to move to another country for work, studies, retirement, or adoption, etc. you will be asked to provide an apostilled certificate from your doctor confirming that you are in good health. An apostilled Doctor’s Letter is often requested for work visa applications and immigrant visas.
A declaration of domicile is a legal document that states the address of your primary residency, that is the address where you license your vehicles, pay taxes, bank, vote, register for public schools, etc. Generally, documents considered acceptable as proof of domicile (your driver’s license, a bank statement, a utility bill, and such) are often asked to be apostilled if they are requested by a foreign country.
A background check requires an apostille if you plan to use your document outside of the United States and in a country – member of the Hague Apostille Convention. A background check is typically requested when individual plans to start a new job, adopt a baby, get married, etc. If you plan to move to a foreign country for work, education, or permanent residency, your background check will require an apostille.

If you are a US citizen living abroad or a US business operating in another country, that country would require proof of your residency in the US for you to claim certain income tax treaty benefits. An apostilled US Tax Residency Certificate (Form 6166, also referred to as US Residency Certification) is accepted as a valid proof of residency by all country members of the Hague Apostille Convention. US Tax Residency Certificate (IRS Form 6166) is a digitally generated letter printed on U.S. Department of Treasury stationery that certifies that an individual or a business entity listed on it maintains residency in the United States and, therefore, are eligible to claim income tax treaty benefits and certain tax write-offs in a foreign country.
