If you plan to drive in a foreign country with your US-issued driver’s license, you will need an apostille for your driver’s license (DL) to be considered legal abroad. Global Apostille can help you with obtaining an apostille on your DL.  
      
First, you will need to have a copy of your driver’s license certified by a Notary Public in the state that issued your driver’s license. Make sure you choose an experienced licensed Notary knowledgeable on document certification for use abroad. A color copy of your license with the attached notary affidavit should be acceptable. Make sure a notarized copy of your license bears the notary’s name, date of notarization, and notary seal.

If you are already outside of the United States, your family member or a trusted person can obtain a notarized copy of your driver’s license on your behalf. So, if you are in Greece, for instance, and your driver’s license is from the state of Ohio, you can ask your family member or a trusted person located in Ohio to take your driver’s license to a Notary Public in Ohio, have it copy certified, notarized, and mail it to our office for apostille processing. Please note that the Notary Public will request to see an original driver’s license to perform certification.  A color copy of the driver’s license can only be signed and notarized in the State that issued it. As soon as you received your driver’s license notarized copy, you will need to mail it to our office for apostille processing. 

Don’t worry if you are already outside of the United States and have no one who could obtain a notarized copy of your driver’s license. You can send your original driver’s license to our office and we can obtain an apostille on it. 

Remember that an apostille is issued only on driver’s licenses intended for use in country members of the Hague Apostille Convention. If you plan to use your driver’s license in a country that is not a member of the Hague Apostille Treaty, your driver’s license needs to have a certificate of authentication – legalization through the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., and legalization through the Embassy / Consulate office.   
          
Obtaining apostille on a driver’s license is a complex process and should always be handled by professionals only.
