Does your Pension letter need to be apostilled?

If you plan to retire in another country, you will be required to obtain an apostilled Pension Letter to prove your income and show your eligibility for receiving your pension while living abroad.  The apostilled Social Security Income and Benefits Statement is usually required for getting a permanent resident visa. 

Before we can apostille your Pension Income Letter, you must obtain its signed and notarized copy from the company that administers your pension.  The letter should state your monthly benefits.  In addition to Pension Income Letter, you may also be required to submit a Social Security Income and Benefits statement. Before we can obtain an Apostille on a Social Security Income and Benefits statement, you will need to request a signed statement from the local Social Security office.  This statement does not need to be notarized.  Also, If the U.S. Federal Government covers your pension, this letter does not necessitate notarization. Remember that the Secretary of State can apostille only original documents. Don’t trust the websites that promise to obtain an Apostille on an uploaded copy.   

Obtaining an apostille can be intricate. Avoid leaving this task for inexperienced staff or non-professionals who are not fully aware of the complexities of the apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries.
