Apostille on Declaration of Domicile

What is a Declaration of Domicile and why do I need it?

A declaration of domicile is a legal document that states the address of your primary residency, that is the address where you license your vehicles, pay taxes, bank, vote, register for public schools, etc. Generally, documents considered acceptable as proof of domicile (your driver’s license, a bank statement, a utility bill, and such) are often asked to be apostilled if they are requested by a foreign country.
If you plan to move to a foreign country to work, study, conduct business, etc. you will be asked to provide an apostilled declaration of domicile in the United States.
How can I get an apostille on a Declaration of Domicile?

Any document showing your permanent address in the USA (a driver’s license, utility bill, bank statement, etc.) must be notarized before we can process an apostille on it. So, your first step should be going to a notary public and having him/her make a color copy of your domicile document and notarize it. Make sure your notarized domicile document has a notary’s signature, date, notary stamp, and a proper notarial affidavit. Once notarized, your declaration of domicile can be mailed to our office for apostille processing. Please note that apostille is always processed by the same state where your document was notarized. For example, if your driver’s license or a bank statement was notarized by a Florida notary, it will receive an apostille from the Florida Secretary of State, or if your utility bill was notarized in Georgia, it will receive Georgia apostille.

Obtaining an apostille on declaration of domicile documents is a complex process and should only be handled by professionals. Remember that trusting your important documents to incompetent people unfamiliar with the specifics of each country, may lead you to additional expenses, and delays of your important business by weeks, or even months.
