If you intend to study or work abroad and also have completed high school, trade school, college, or university in the United States, the country that you are heading to may require that your US-issued academic records get authenticated by the school Registrar before the apostille is processed. If you need transcripts, they should be easily available from the academic establishment you attended. You should start by contacting the Registrar’s office of your school and let them know that you need an original or color copy of your school transcript to be signed and notarized.
Generally, the school will write a short letter, on school letterhead, stating that attached are the official school transcripts for this student. The letter is then physically signed by a school official in the presence of a notary public. An alternate method is to have a school official physically sign the actual transcripts in the presence of a notary public. If your school does not have a notary public, you need to bring a mobile notary public who will meet with the school official. The notary public must apply proper notarial laws of his/her State for the State office to authenticate your transcript, and include his signature, seal, and the exact date of notarization as required by statute. Most notaries are no experts in authenticating school transcripts or diplomas for foreign countries, so it’s best to trust the apostille process to professionals like us.

Remember that an apostille can only be issued on school transcripts requested for use in the country - member of the Hague Apostille Convention. If you are going to a country that is not a member of the Hague Treaty, your school transcripts need to have a certificate of authentication – a form of legalization through the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., and legalization through the Embassy / Consulate office.
