USCIS Apostille

Do you need to obtain an Apostille on certified documents issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)?

The Certificate of Naturalization is generally the most common document requiring the USCIS Apostille.

If a naturalized US citizen needs to have a Certificate of Naturalization authenticated by the U.S. State Department for use by foreign Governments/Embassies, USCIS is the only authority that can copy the document and certify it as a true copy. USCIS Authenticated document is called “Certified True Copy."

If your Certificate of Naturalization was issued more than 20 years ago,  lacks a signature or has a signature that cannot be authenticated, or if you prefer to get an Apostille on a Certified True Copy rather than on the original, we advise you to contact the local U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office and ask for an appointment with the Field Office Director or the Immigration Service Analyst to certify the copy.

If you want to certify the original Certificate of Naturalization, you need to make an appointment with your local USCIS office. You must bring an original and a copy (color or black and white) of your Certificate of Naturalization and another form of photo identification, such as a driver’s license or passport. A USCIS officer will review your documents and may certify the copy, once your identity and status as a naturalized citizen are confirmed.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, USCIS, will process Certified True Copies (Form G-24) and return them to you along with the supplied documentation. Once you receive your Form G-24), you will need to mail it to our office for Apostille.

Bear in mind that the Certified True Copy of Certificate of Naturalization can only be processed via the U.S. Department of State – Office of Authentication in Washington, D.C.  No Secretary of State office is authorized to process this type of authentication.

Obtaining an apostille can be intricate. Avoid leaving this task for inexperienced staff or non-professionals who are not fully aware of the complexities of the apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries. Your application may be rejected, and you lose time and money. Make a better choice!
