Georgia Birth Certificate Apostille in Atlanta

Do you need to obtain an apostille on a Georgia birth certificate in Atlanta?

If you were born in the state of Georgia and plan to move to a foreign country for work, study, marriage; or seeking to obtain dual citizenship, you will be required to have your birth certificate apostilled. An apostille confirms the authenticity of your birth certificate, including the stamps and signatures on it, and validates its use in all member countries of the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961.

How to get an apostille on a Georgia-issued birth certificate in Atlanta?

Your first step is to get a certified copy of your birth certificate from a local county office or the State Office of Vital Records. In Georgia, you can request this document in person or by mail.  You can also obtain certified copies of birth certificates online via one of Georgia State-approved third-party vendors (GO Certificates, ROVER, and VitalChek.com).

Birth certificates issued in Georgia can only be released to applicants with direct and actual regard to the registrant, like immediate family members, and/or legal representatives.

Depending on your relationship to the person listed on a Georgia-issued birth certificate, you will need to provide the following documentation to obtain this document

• If you are the individual named on the birth certificate you must provide your valid photo identification at the time of the request.
• If you are the parent(s) of a person named on the birth certificate, you need to provide a valid picture ID.
• If you are an authorized legal guardian or representative of a person listed on a birth certificate, you must provide a certified copy of the court order establishing guardianship and legal custody.
• If you are a grandparent of the person named on the certificate you will need to provide proof of relationship such as the birth certificate of the registrant’s parent.
• If you are an adult child or adult sibling of the person listed on the certificate you are required to demonstrate proof of relationship by providing a copy of his or her birth certificate listing one of the same parents, along with his or her valid government issued picture identification which includes the signature.
• If you are the spouse of the person named on the certificate you will need to show a copy of the marriage certificate, a photocopy of the spouse’s picture identification document showing the spouse’s signature, and a notarized letter from the spouse giving permission.

Once you obtain an original or a certified copy of a birth certificate you can mail or bring it to our Atlanta office for apostille processing. Remember that an apostille is always processed in the same state that issued the birth certificate, so your birth certificate issued in Georgia will receive Georgia apostille.
