Apostille for Power of Attorney for India

Apostille for Birth CertificateCOVID 19 Update: Due to the ongoing travel restrictions to India, the Embassy of India in the USA and Indian Consulate offices currently are not open for walk-in service. If you want your documents to be legally acceptable for use in India, you need to obtain an apostille.

Once your Power of Attorney is signed and notarized, to become fully legitimate it needs to be apostilled by the Secretary of State’s office.  We obtain United States apostille for the documents signed and notarized in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Upon receipt of your documents with apostille, please contact a Consulate General of India for directions on how to attest your power of attorney through the Consulate office.  At Global Apostille, we only assist you with the apostille service. We do not provide Embassy/Consulate attestation for India.

A Power of Attorney must be signed and witnessed by two individuals (with their full names and addresses clearly stated).

Despite being a member of the Apostille Convention (Hague Treaty Convention), some places in India require the attestation by the Indian Embassy/Consulate in addition to the apostille from the Secretary of State’s office.  To avoid any issues, we recommend that your Power of Attorney is both apostilled and then attested by the Embassy/Consulate office.

Indian Embassy is located in Washington DC. There are also five Indian Consulates in the United States, located in the following states/cities:

  • California (San Francisco)
  • Georgia (Atlanta)
  • Illinois (Chicago)
  • New York (New York City)
  • Texas (Houston)

Before you begin processing your Power of Attorney, please contact the Embassy or Consulate office within your jurisdiction for instructions. A Consular office may require that you notarize additional documentation to show proof that you are a current legal resident of the United States. Common documents they may ask to notarize:

  • U.S Driving license
  • Bank/credit card/cellular phone statements
  • Water or landline telephone bill displaying applicant’s address
  • House Lease Agreement

Our experts are available Monday through Saturday from 10.00 AM to 6.00 PM. Please call us at 1-770-447-0360 and we will answer all your questions and offer easy to follow detailed instructions.
